Brian Sanchez died after the car he was riding in veered off of I-91 in Barton, went down an embankment, and crashed into the ridgeline and a concrete wall, Vermont State Police said. Heavy rains had made the roads slick, though it's unclear if that caused the crash.

Sanchez was in the back seat and wasn't wearing a seatbelt, authorities said. Paramedics rushed him to North County Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The driver, Ediberto Luna, 30, and passenger, Jorge Caballeros, 33, both of East Boston, were injured in the crash. Luna sustained serious and life-threatening injuries, while Caballeros escaped with non-life-threatening injuries.

Vermont troopers are investigating the crash. They ask anyone who witnessed the incident or knows anything about it to contact Sgt. Joshua Mikkola at joshua.mikkola@vermont.gov or call 802-334-8881.
